Apple Fitness+ offers more ways than ever to stay active and mindful in the new year
Starting January 8, the service will offer a new type of meditation with sound, a workout program with world-famous golfer Rose Zhang, an artist spotlight series for the Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show, Time to Walk on Apple Podcasts, and more
Apple Fitness+ is offering users new ways to stay active and mindful in the new year. Starting Monday, January 8, the service will introduce a new type of meditation with sound, as well as a new workout program called Strength, Core and Yoga for Golfers, featuring athlete Rose Zhang, one of golf’s rising stars. The Artists in Spotlight series will feature new workouts that celebrate the countdown to Apple Music’s Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show with USHER. Time to Walk will feature new guests including Al Roker, Trixie Mattel, Lilly Singh, Common and Colman Domingo. For the first time, select Time to Walk episodes will be available on Apple Podcasts, so anyone in the 21 countries where the service is available can listen to them, even without a Fitness+ subscription.
“Starting the new year can mean starting a journey of fitness and well-being, getting back into it after a long break, or taking it to the next level,” said Jay Blahnik, Apple’s vice president of Fitness Technologies. “From sound meditation for relaxation to strength training for an improved golf swing to turning up the volume during a workout, Fitness+ offers something for everyone to stay active and promote well-being in the new year.”
Sound meditation for relaxation
Fitness+ offers ten meditation types, including calm, gratitude, sleep, resilience, and creativity. Fitness+ introduces a new type of meditation called sound, which offers users a new way to feel relaxed and refreshed. Each meditation offers easy guidance from Fitness+ coaches while leaving plenty of room for the user’s presence. A variety of soothing sounds and rhythms — like the tranquil sounds of singing bowls and the deep tones of gongs — provide a feeling of lightness.
Seven new sound meditations will be available in 5-, 10- and 20-minute increments, with new meditations added each week.
Strength training, core and yoga for golfers
Building strength, stability and mobility is important for golfers of all skill levels so they can swing with ease and hit the ball with power. Fitness+ is introducing a new workout program: Strength, Core and Yoga for Golfers, co-developed with professional golfer Rose Zhang and led by Fitness+ Strength and Core Trainer Kyle Ardill. Inspired by Zhang’s training on and off the course, this program offers a mix of four strength, core and yoga workouts designed to improve strength, balance, flexibility and mobility.
“Training off the course is so important to performing at my best. Incorporating strength, core and flexibility training helps prepare my body and mind,” said Zhang. “I’m excited that the workouts in this program on Fitness+ will help users gain more confidence in their swing and have more fun on the golf course – whether they’re new to golf or looking to improve their skills.”
Turn up the volume
Music is an essential element of every Fitness+ workout, motivating users from start to finish with today’s best artists, with deep integration with Apple Music.
The Artists in Spotlight series, which dedicates an entire workout playlist to a single artist, kicks off its longest series yet to celebrate the countdown to the Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show with USHER. Each week before the big game, there will be music from iconic artists who performed at halftime:
- Starting Monday, January 8, ten new workouts featuring music from Rihanna, last year’s headliner of Apple Music’s Super Bowl Halftime Show, will be available for the first time on a fitness service.
- Starting Monday, January 15, new workouts with music from Britney Spears will be offered.
